For many companies this is an incredibly disingenuous statement. Many that get on board are training their replacements. It’s already starting to happen. The future is now.

An angry cartoon character with messy hair, pulling his hair and expressing frustration, wearing a white shirt and red tie.

In my business, I hear actors and musicians crying foul every day. The fear is real and justified. I feel your pain.

I want all to hear two points.

  1. Learn Improvisation! The human skills learned in improv will make you invaluable as a team member, sales force, leader and teacher in the future.
  2. LEARN AI! Be prepared. At least learn basic prompting. Play with various tools for free.

At a company, the few that understand the technology AND great communication will be fine. OR if downsized, you will have the skills to survive out their on your own.

If you are 18-22 considering your future, learning these skills will give you an edge as an entrepreneur.

If you are 14-17 start learning how to vibe code today. You will graduate high school as a small business owner. You’ll retire when Zuck or Musk buy you out to kill their competition.

As a creative in the arts or textiles, you will be confident in your ability to present your work to the world, in person and via technical platforms.

Either way, don’t get stuck on what you can’t do. You waste time and energy. You get lost in the echo chamber. Stop worrying about your rank today. Focus on making yourself 1% better tomorrow.

Plan for the worst but hope for the best!

Double down on developing yourself, your craft, your art, hard and soft skills. Learn the new tech AND become a human skills ninja. The old school employee mentality is less and less a safe space moving forward.

As an employee, think like an entrepreneur. Create opportunities for yourself. Create your value to the company. Work hard AND smart.

Complaining about the future never prepared anyone for it. While I find it disingenuous coming from your boss, it is a truth more folks need to embrace. Support regulating AI. Don’t support AI generated music, art and video. Reject the slop.

At the same time, don’t celebrate ignorance. You may have tried free versions of CHAT, GEMINI or CLAUDE. A number of companies use CO PILOT (the worst of them is have seen). You probably think, “I am fine.”

The big companies have access to the latest tech and the most powerful versions. They have the baby skynets now. USA is already playing war games with Claude. OOPS, that was a school? Oh well.

At the very least learn enough to truly understand what is happening. Politicians, PLEASE learn the tech so you can regulate based on facts and data, not your dark money overlord orders.

Companies, recognize that you may save a couple $$$ replace a human with agentic AI BUT over time, who will be left to buy what you sell? After a short windfall it all goes to poop!

But I am worried mostly about you. The employee. The small business owner. The artists. My nieces and nephews. Ignore the nonsense online. Ignore the talking points. Ignore feelings and beliefs. Prepare yourself for the worst via education. Apathy will be the nail in your future’s coffin.
