WHY IMPROV COMEDY?

Humor and creativity work in similar ways, says humor guru William Fry, M.D., of Stanford University–by creating relationships between two disconnected items, you engage the whole brain.

This could be the most important cultural arts program ever presented for teen groups. While the students are laughing hysterically, they are also learning valuable life skills.

Improv shows, as performed by EIGHT IS NEVER ENOUGH, demonstrate story telling and performance of both music and theater.

Improv is the ultimate story telling art. Learning improv teaches creative writing and critical thinking. We learn to think on our feet, tapping into deep self conscious brain activity and memories. Meanwhile Improv applies story telling techniques studied in Language Arts – developing characters, settings, action. (WHO WHERE WHAT in Improv).  Students develop a new appreciation for studying classical literature and plays.

“YES! And…” the number one governing principal behind Improvisation, is demonstrably powerful teaching community and leadership skills. Via Improv Workshops, students learn to truly, actively listen and respond in real time. We use the same workshops to teach corporate team building, tying into Psychological Safety and other HR concepts. (See more at www.corporate-comedy.us)

The shows and workshops are so much fun, students lower their guards, allowing themselves to overcome self confidence, most importantly social communication and public speaking anxieties.

Students are encouraged to project and otherwise clearly communicate ideas.
