I often turn on podcasts at night to help go to sleep. Listening to others talk helps turn of the voices in my head.

Today I woke up to the sounds of the Marketing Happy Hour discussing three key factors for a marketing team and individual. I just had to share. This episode had three major points to make:

  • COPYWRITING
  • CONNECTIONS / COMMUNICATION
  • ADAPTABILITY

Of course, I talk about all three in my improv workshops. Listen to the episode. Some of the hard skills / techniques are great. But don’t underestimate the soft skills.

While having fun playing improv games, I teach creatitivy, community and leadership.

COPYWRITING

The podcast goes into a lot of important techniques. I need to focus the editing my work part. The improv can help you adopt the tone of your client’s brand. Learn to think like another, as an actor becomes another personality. Think in the first person of another. Improv also teaches divergent thinking while staying present.

IMPROV IS STORYTELLING

Build your creative skills for writing through improv game play. Learn to deal with writers block by moving past the ego and insecurity of TRYING to be funny, clever and good. Just be. You will be funnier, more clever, and at YOUR best by being in the moment and trusting. You free your mind when you move past “TRYING”, a function of ego and insecurity not creativity. You become hyper focused in a good way.

CONNECTIONS & COMMUNICATION

Stage fright is the #1 phobia. Social Anxiety is at an all time high. We yell at kids LISTEN FOCUS RESPECT while addicted to our phones for 20 years plus…

Improv games break the ice. Play a 2 minute game before every meeting to get the creative and connective juices flowing. Play 5 minutes every Monday morning to bring the team back together for a powerful week. Build your self confidence up for individual connections and powerful presentation skills by moving past ego and insecurity.

ADAPTABILITY

I joke every day that people my age complain about change as if they never heard their grandparents say BACK IN MY DAY. My grand parents grew up without TV. Some without phones. My great grand parents were born before even rich people had cars. My father’s generation as the last to enjoy 30-40 year job security with a pension.

NOW? AI is coming. Sorry, AI is here. I work with teams from fortune 500 companies. While they learn AI and new marketing techniques, I teach adaptability.

I say stop fear and judgment. Replace with curiosity. Stop thinking and start listening with your eyes. Be a geek student in the front row on the edge of your seat craving new information and experience.

Improv Comedy Workshops!

Marketing and Sales teams NEED improv workshops. Not just the two hours with me. That is just a start. You should be playing these games every day. So many teams i work with come in terrified. Within 5 minutes they realize they had nothing to fear. BUT how many opportunities are lost due to fear and anxiety.

The fear of the unknown is normal!

We are human. Stage fright is the fear of the unknown. The fear of embarrassment. The fear of looking foolish.

People put on a good show. They hate the word anxiety. They don’t have fear. But they don’t have confidence. The layers of ego are so think from overcompensation. Folks confuse ego and arrogance for intelligence and confidence every day.

Yet social anxiety and loneliness are at an all time high. Bring improv into the office place. Build community and leadership skills. Turn your team into human skills ninjas.

Our Workshops in Times Square NYC or at your office!

I have a all day program today at my Times Square NYC theater. A marketing team is using the theater for meetings, we are catering breakfast and lunch, then I am running a 2 hour improv workshop FOLLOWED by my Madcapped Mysteries, the improvised one man murder mystery show where ALL OF YOU become characters in a crime story that is yet to be written. (It is the ultimate in training collaborative creativity.)

My teams also travel DC to Boston and beyond almost daily!
