3pm Saturday Times Square NYC Improv Comedy

Stop Choosing Mediocrity! Stop Choosing Ignorance!

As I watched this author interviewed, I thought of 20+ years of working with k12 school kids.

I have now taught acting and comedy to k12 kids for 30+ years. In the early 1990s, while still a student of music and theater, I first gigs were directing school plays and musicals.

20+ years ago we started delivering improv comedy workshops in schools. 15+ years I started teaching stand up comedy to kids and teens.

At one high school back in 2010, I was working with highly intelligent teens that couldn’t write a single paragraph. My 8yo niece was a better writer. Both my niece and I grew up around Washington DC where two of the best five education systems in the country exist, usually fighting for 2nd and 3rd place alternating years.

I include stand up comedy in my public improv classes to force kids to learn these skills.

My colleagues hate it when I say AI at its worse writes better than 90% of the population. AI may never be one our greatest playwrights or poets, but it writes better than 90% of today’s adults.

When you choose ignorance and apathy, you destroy your future options. Don’t learn for your teachers or parents. Study hard for you. Give your self more choices later by making better choices today!!!

UNEARTH THE STORY

A person with a beard poses in front of a banner that reads 'UNEARTH A STORY™ Summer Reading at Your Library.'

Meanwhile I am touring Maryland libraries where they have the theme, UNEARTH THE STORY. Improv 4 Kids has spent 20 years pairing with literacy programs.

Improv deconstructs Language Arts. Stand Up and Sketch comedy reintroduces the writing component.

It is so exciting to see librarians and parents partnering to keep kids reading and writing. Schools and parents need to work together more. When they do we see magical futures. In schools where parents and teachers and politicians play the blame game, the kids suffer.

Make school fun. Bring Improv 4 kids and Improv 4 Teens into your schools. Follow up with comedy classes and residencies. We don’t teach how to be funny. We teach listening, focus, creative writing, critical thinking, public speaking and so much more.
