Steven Prestia live on stage, student goes pro
If you were a student of ours you may recognized Steven as a class mate.
In recent years you may know Steven as an intern of ours, assisting our teachers and even performing in our shows.
Now in college, Steven is now working as a cast mate this, following in the footsteps of Brandon and others.
But Steven is making me proid in other ways. Steven is hustling as a comic for stage time and it is working.
I can teaching writing and performing, but thay hustle is tough. I have tried to get dozens of students and colleagues to step up and take ownership of their careers. Most don’t. Either the lazy gavtor kcicks in, or fear of rejection, or listening to those that don’t have a career working on stage and screen.
The proudest moment of my life as a teacher was seeing Steven’s face and name on the flyer for a show he was not producing.
If you want to be a working artist, you have to find or create work for self. We are no different from plumbers, accountants, teachers ot other professions. We own the business and our talent is our product. We need to make connections and hipe eaxh gig leads to another so we can focus more time on the art. But if you are out of work, focus on getting yourself work.
