Typical Week, what will you (your child) be doing?

Monday Mornings start with ice breakers in the form of Improv Comedy warm up games. We learn teachers names, pronouns, and some favorite things. We simply pass energy around a circle in silly ways, loosening up each other with laughter and building team bonds while discovering listening, communication/presentation skills and beginning to learn about story telling. Improv is the focus up until lunch time.

After lunch, we focus on brainstorming ideas for stand up and sketch comedy. We simply share personal stories of experience and observation. Over the course of the week, these stories will be crafted I to original comedy routines (Stand-Up and Sketch Comedy).

Most Mondays at 3pm we present a professional comedy show. The campers all watch and learn while enjoying a snack. We invite family and friends to join us. The $25 ticket is on us; you just have to purchase a beverage (soft drinks fine for kids of all ages).

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday include more classes in improv, stand-up and sketch comedy. Kids and Teens get a lot of stage time to work on their skills. At least 1-2 blocks of time are dedicated for the campers to bond, led by our teenteens, our experienced teen students.

Friday is show day. After a warm up, the campers participate in a dress rehearsal, practicing games, comedy routines and transitions. Advanced teen campers also practice MCing games and introducing comics. After lunch we invite friends and family for a showcase.

In addition to comedy camp, New York Improv Theater offers weekly classes for kids and teens in Times Square NYC year round and offers residencies at New York, New Jersey and Connecticut schools.

Artistic Director, Walt Frasier

Walt Frasier has been producing comedy shows in New York since 2002. Mostly known for his work in improvisation and corporate comedy, Frasier has hosted 5000+ shows, while producing 8000+ live from Times Square NYC and touring nationwide. TV credits include Billions (SHO) Friends of the People (TruTV), Lilyhammer (NETFLIX), Blue Bloods (CBS), Friends of the People (TruTV), Royal Pains (USA), Naked Brothers Band (NICK), Fat Pants (Dr. Oz Promo), Late Night with David Letterman (9 eps 2006-2007). Also known as Dr. Oz’s Fat Pants and other commercials. Additional credits include international theater and music including off-Broadway, regional and touring theater, Church Soloist and Opera.
