I had an amazing day! I type this WIRED from driving four-plus hours home from a very interesting corporate team-building event.
New York Improv Theater jas been working with corporate teams for 20+ years, using improv to develop community and leadership skills through fun engaging workshops.
As the improv guy, I was the fun last part of an intensive three-plus-day training at a major international company ramping up their tech game to the tune of… let’s just say, A LOT OF MOOLAH!!!
What this company did not know is that I’ve been blogging a lot lately about the need for improv and similar training as we move towards what tech folks call “AI-forward” offices.
The Need for Nimble Thinking
In this new world, things are changing VERY fast. Improv teaches you to pivot on a dime, to stay nimble by listening, accepting, and having fun. We can allow it to inspire us by that which might terrify others: THE UNKNOWN.
I started listening to a podcast about the future of AI the other day. Curious by the title, I missed the date. Five minutes in, I, an actor who uses AI and follows a few blogs, knew this podcast was at least seven months old and already old news.
So, we need to be ready to pivot, to be proactive, to take risks, and to not be overwhelmed by change. In so many sectors, folks are still trying to do things the way they operated 20 years ago. If you follow trends, AI, and algorithms, you know what we did last year doesn’t work anymore.
Become a Human Skills Ninja
Lastly, improv is more important than ever. Becoming a human skills ninja, balanced with AI-forward thinking, will make you an invaluable asset. Don’t worry about being savvy today.
Individually, you can take classes. As a project manager, bring folks like myself in to work with your teams. If you teach improv or similar human skills training platforms, orient yourself to the new technology.
