Corporate Team Building FAQ: Answering Top Project Manager Questions

CORPORATE TEAM BUILDING WITH IMPROV: YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

If you’re thinking about bringing improv to your team, you probably have a few things on your mind. Here are the ten questions we hear most from corporate event planners—and the answers you actually need.

1. HOW MUCH DOES CORPORATE IMPROV COST?

It depends on group size and what you’re looking for, but improv is built to scale without breaking your budget. We work with companies on everything from intimate 10-person workshops to full-day events for hundreds, and we price accordingly. No hidden fees. No mystery quotes that land in your inbox a week later. In fact, we have an amazing package for one teacher, up to 2 hours for just $600 ANYWHERE NYC and surrounding counties / suburbs. We can host a workshop at our TIMES SQUARE NYC theater starting at just $800 weekday mornings.

2. CAN YOU DO THIS FOR REMOTE OR HYBRID TEAMS?

Absolutely. Improv games work just as well on Zoom as they do in a room, and that’s not me being nice about it—it’s just true. We’ve run hybrid events where half the team is on camera and half is in a room together, and honestly, the digital folks usually laugh the hardest. In fact, our artistic director, Walt Frasier, wrote the book, IMPROV ON ZOOM after logging 4000 hours of shows and workshops during 2020.

3. WHAT ACTIVITIES ACTUALLY WORK AND FEEL MEANINGFUL?

Improv isn’t a scavenger hunt disguised as connection. It’s actual real-time collaboration where your team has to listen, build on each other’s ideas, and make decisions together under a little bit of friendly pressure. People bond because they’re genuinely doing something together, not because they found a plastic egg. We have fun, play games, break down walls then drop the wisdom that makes folks smile, nod and feel like they have a better future ahead.

4. HOW MUCH TIME DO WE NEED TO PLAN THIS?

Here is the beauty of improv: we could run this for you tomorrow. Logistic of venues and schedules of participants might take a few days/weeks to work our, but Improv shows and workshops can be pulled together nearly from thin air. Same is true to a slightly lesser extent for our Murder Mystery and Game Night events.

5. HOW DO YOU HANDLE DIFFERENT GROUP SIZES?

Improv scales beautifully because it’s not about equipment or complicated setups. The larger the Group, the larger the team we employ. For workshops, I recommend 1 teacher per up to 20 participants BUT I have run workshops with 50+. Teacher Student ratio matters in EVERYTHING.

6. HOW DO WE KNOW IF THIS ACTUALLY MOVES THE NEEDLE?

This is a difficult metric with any team building activity. The true results will be determined by your team and leadership. Does your team employ our methods top down? As a project manager, here is what Improv will do for you. At the base level, it will give your team a much needed break having fun, sharing some laughs. Level 2 your team embraces the basic tenants and in reases their collaboration and work ethic, supporting and communicating better. Level 3, your leadership embraces our training in listening and leading by example. Level 4, your entire team delivers human ninja skills in ser I e, sales, leadership and team. Level 5, YOU will see, as improv peels back layers of ego and insecurity in your teams, where you truly need to touch YOUR human resources to better production and output.

7. WHAT IF OUR TEAM HAS REALLY DIFFERENT PERSONALITIES AND INTERESTS?

No problem. We daily work with all types. We bring those terrified of stage alongside those over compensating with ego and arrogance. Together we build ONE team, playing and building together.

8. HOW DO WE GET BUY-IN FROM PEOPLE WHO ARE SKEPTICAL ABOUT TEAM BUILDING?

We have an amazing track record reaching the seamingly unreachable. We meet individuals and teams where they are. We listen to their needs. Mostly, we focus on the fun. We sneak in some wisdom here and the there, but the genius of the improv is we learn through play. No lectures. No PowerPoint. We just play. But unlike escape rooms and are throwing, EVERY activity is building individual and team skills. EVERY workshop we do, both at k12 schools and corporate events, the teacher/team lead comes up and says, “I NEVER EXPECTED THAT PERSON TO EMBRACE THIS”. Further, folks terrified of pu lic speaking leave LOVING improv comedy.

9. CAN YOU GIVE US QUESTIONS AND CONVERSATION STARTERS?

We do one better. We teach YOU how to create opening statements. Folks spend $1000s just to learn how to prompt AI, start a speech, sales.litch etc. The “hardest” part of improv is starting a scene. In every workshop we give you 3-4 techniques on how to start any creative or social or business endeavor.

10. WHAT DO WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LOGISTICS AND SETUP?

We need a room where your entire group can stand in a circle. If working with larger groups we recommend break put rooms. We have presented this workshop at comedy club, rehearsal studios, WeWork, conference room, central park under the shade of a large tree, major hotel ball rooms, dinner cruise, brewery, golf course, etc etc etc. For smaller events we require ZERO A/V support. For larger events, like shows for 100+, simple sound is required but nothing fancy. If ther is abgrand piano, we boogie 😁!
