Why is there a math test on an Improv Comedy website?
Imagine a world where EVERYONE in your kid’s/student’s life was focused on inspiring curiosity. We do this by being curious ourselves. Leading by example. Can you pass this test with a perfect score? Can your 4th grade student/child?
Are You Smarter Than a 3rd Grader?
Math Edition: 20 Questions to Master Before 4th Grade
Hello. My name is Walt Frasier. I teach improv comedy to kids, teens and adults. But more and more information see a deficiency in basic knowledge.
- Give your kids this test. If they cannot ace it they are not ready for 4th grade math. They need flash cards, a little extra time at home etc.
- Take the test yourself. If you cannot get 20 out of 20 give yourself a refresher on basic math.
NO EGO. NO INSECURITY
- NO SHAME
- NO SELF PITY
- NO ANGRY DEFENSIVE TACTIC
- OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER FROM ALL OF US!!!
Every time I hear someone claim I NEVER NEED MATH, I feel horrible for that person. That statement is LOADED with ego and insecurity. They feel inadequate and over compensate with attitude.
Stop getting defensive. Don't feel bad. If yiu are an adult who cannot do math, you are not dumb. You were failed at something. Either a parent a teacher or your own choices made you give up on that side of education. It got hard and you didn't have the right voice in your head saying , YOU CAN DO THIS!
You might even have an undiagnosed learning challenge. But I lieu of positive solutions and progress, your psyche chose hate for mathematics to justify.
But again, you are not dumb. You are ignorant. At some point you decided ignorance was the psychological safety space. And individually, no problem.
But once you become a parent, teacher, grandparents, uncle, aunt, older sibling, etc, it is our duty to mentor those that follow. Every time we chose to check out, get defensive etc, we teach the wrong lessons. We perpetuate mediocrity. We inspire apathy.
I challenge you to, startind today, drop the act, drop the attitude, move past ego and inaecurity, stop the self pity, and focus being a leader for those that NEED YOU.
