EDUCATION THROUGH LAUGHTER
Since 2003 we have been working with New York area schools, delivering hilarious musical comedy improvised based on audience suggestions and participation. Imagine WHOSE LINE IS IT ANYWAY by professional New York actors and comics, adding a touch kore Broadway and MTV flavors.
In addition to being a great cultural arts program, exposing students to professional off-Broadway live music and theater, Improv teaches language arts, getting students excited about story telling, classic literature and plays, and creative writing.
Further, we use Improv to teach corporate groups team building, leadership, sales and service. We are beyond effective in the business world because Improv IS social emotional learning SEL. Especially when paired with a workshop, improv comedy develops self confidence and self awareness. Simply playing improv games develops creativity, critical thinking, listening, focus and public speaking skills.
The #1 Rule in Improv is “YES! AND…”. In short, we support our teammates, and we move past ego and insecurity, focusing on listening with our eyes, flooding the mental zone with amazing choice.
Our #1 Rule at New York Improv Theater is HAVE FUN but never at another’s expense. We create laughs without putting another down. We focus on great theater, never bad comedy.
