At New York Improv Theater, we’ve got a different take on teaching improv comedy. While the goal is, of course, to learn improv, we find that getting bogged down in “technique” is, frankly, beyond boring!
Most of our students aren’t looking to become professional actors. They come to us because they want to have fun, they want to play, and they want to make new friends. Along the way, they also pick up some incredible life skills by simply playing improv games.
Our Secret Sauce: Fun First!

Join us for weekly shows, classes and jams. We daily host corporate teams and student groups at our Times Square NYC theater as well as tour schools, community centers, and private events DC to Boston to Pittsburg and beyond! You see, too many “teachers” get stuck on the nitty-gritty of technique and, let’s be honest, the sound of their own voice. We believe that by focusing on HAVING FUN – which is our #1 rule – our students naturally thrive. This approach has led to amazing results: our kids and teens are winning competitions, excelling in performances, and even applying their newfound confidence in their work and college lives.
The Real Benefits of Playing Improv

Murder Mystery Parties liven up the event with a tragic death! 😆
When you prioritize play and laughter, the benefits extend far beyond the stage. At New York Improv Theater, our classes inherently provide:
- Enhances Focus and Presence: When you’re in the moment, reacting spontaneously, you can’t help but be fully present.
- Boosts Communication and Connection: Improv is all about listening and building on others’ ideas, which naturally strengthens your ability to communicate and connect with people.
- Fosters a Lighthearted Atmosphere: Laughter is contagious, and our classes are designed to be a safe, joyful space where everyone can let loose and be themselves.
So, if you’re looking for an improv experience that puts joy and connection first, you’ve found your spot. Come play with us and discover the power of laughter!
